We are parents of a high-functioning 16 year old autistic girl. She has had a series of educational breakdowns and the uncertainty regarding education has been a major trigger for her. Over the last two years she has had many significant autistic meltdowns.
In recent weeks, she has had intrusive thoughts about hurting us as her parents although she tells us that she loves us deeply and has followed through on those urges, seriously assaulting her mum. CAMHS have been working with her for 8 weeks but have not made much progress. Matters developed and she was assessed under section 136 of the Mental Health Act and then voluntarily admitted to an adolescent psychiatric unit. However, after 2 days in the unit she has not coped in the unit with the restrictions and stimuli and has assaulted a member of staff. Because she was voluntarily admitted, the unit are now discharging her. She does not want to come home because she is still having the urges to hurt us but does not want to do so. Social services are involved, but a foster placement is not the right place for her.
The problem we have is that social services want her to come home; CAMHS say they can't provide sufficient support in the community; the adolescent psychiatric unit say they are not the right place for her. Our daughter is desperately crying out for help but nobody appears to be able to provide the help she seens
Where can we source the help that our daughter so desperately needs? We are at our wits' end.
Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.
