Impossible to find childcare/childminding options

Hello,

My daughter is undergoing her ASD assessment, though it's safe to say she is autistic.

I am a single mother, working full time with commuting requirements - my daughter's school, though resourced for her needs, do not provide full wrap around care, they only host a breakfast club, of which they cannot confirm whether she will even be able to attend on my commuting mornings because they may not be able to staff it to facilitate her (pending confirmation on whether her funding can be used for this).  I have been told that they have never experienced a parent who requires wrap around care for their SEN child - which I just can't fathom.

I have been looking for a childminder for a very long time, who has experience with autistic children, who I hope can become a trusted staple in my daughter's life for before and afterschool care, as well as those few adhoc times I might need help on a weekend.

We are located in Essex - I have looked into the Essex Shortbreaks, but they are challenging whether she is on her pathway or not so I cannot utilise this as of yet.
I have a profile on childcare; however, I am having difficulty finding someone who can meet my schedule and needs as well as being okay with my dog in the event they need to be at my address.

Has ANYONE had a similar experience and maybe found a solution?

  • Hi there Danielle!  I'm sorry to hear that you're having a difficult time finding appropriate care for your daughter.  I'm sure that there will be fellow community members in the same area as you who can give you some suitable advice.

In the meantime, it may also be worth having a look at our Autism Services Directory, where you can input your postcode and search for support and services in your area that may be helpful to you and your daughter.

Kind regards, and best wishes to you both!
