Hello,
I am new to this forum. My 2 and 1/2 year old son was recently assessed by an early intervention team to see if he needed to be in their care. At the end they said yes he does. A week later we had a meeting with them to discuss findings and they said everything pointed to ASD. Even after my husband asked ' are you positive, will he work out to be fine? They just said they are almost sure he is ASD it's more or less a matter of getting it official. He was Hand flapping, walking on tip toes, putting everything in his mouth, lining, only speaks about what he is doing that minute and he can only really label, melt down when leaving clinic etc etc. Anyway they are sending us to a sensory workshop for parents next week. However the Psychiatrist told us that for them to carry out the diagnosis would take around 15 months or more!! So she said as a matter of urgency we should get a private diagnosis. She then said that HSE in Ireland and the NHS in Northern Ireland are funny about accepting a private diagnosis.
I really want to get the ball rolling for help with my son. I figure the sooner we can start understanding all this the sooner we can help him reach the best he can be.
I have booked an appointment with a professor Michael Fitzgerald in Dublin on October 15th. Has anyone else been to him and will British or Irish government departments accept his diagnosis??
Many Thanks
