School choice

Hello.

We have a choice to make on the local primary school for our 4 year old who’s about to start primary school, and I’d be grateful for your insight.

One of the schools is smaller, one form entry, it’s a good school and it has a big advantage that his best friend, who makes him feel very safe, is going there.

I think the other school is better on SEN, the headteacher is really positive about support and accommodations, and they have a programme of structured activities at break time (called OPAL), which I think will be great when he gets a bit older - as I remember break times being very tough.

I think it’s bascially a choice of short term having a more positive transition, and a smaller environment. Versus long term benefits of the other school but a harder transition for him, and potential loss of a really lovely friend (which are obviously hard to make, but which might drift anyway).

he’s so little and I’m struggling with working out what’s best. I wondered whether anyone had insight they could offer
