Shoes?

Hi

Not sure where is the right place to ask. Here seemed as good a place as any, but if this is better posted elsewhere please let me know.

My son has, over the last few weeks started to have serious issues with having shoes and socks on. He is as far as I can tell incredibly sensory-focused, particularly with touch/physical sensations. Where possible we let him have his way and let him go barefoot, but there are times he just needs shoes on (if we go to the playground in the park for example) and I want to find a way to make this as comfortable for him as possible. I know it is possible to get 'autism-friendly socks', are autism-friendly shoes for children in existence? If so where should I look. My little boy is 2yrs9 months so they need to do small sizes!

Thanks

  • Hi, PoP

Ive not seen any autism friendly shoes, my son use to shout at his socks every morning he had to put them on before school which got him so worked up it was a nightmare. We have since managed to find seemless socks and they have made such a difference there is not so much as a raised tone out of him whilst he is putting them on; he loves them.

As for the shoes we have come to realise that they have to be lowish soft tonge (comes just above the crease when you point your feet upwards) and have to be low around the ankles and we have to flex the tonge and sides to soften them up.
