Looking for a secondary school in the Midlands

My 15 year old has only recently been diagoosed with ASD and I am trying to find a school in the Midlands area that would be suitable.  Has been out of school for 18 months with anxieties and now trying to find somewhere not too big non mainstream but as there are no physical difficulties does not need to be too specialised.  has anyone got any suggestions?

StrugglingMum found a mainstream school in her area with a special unit. Perhaps you can find one in your area?

  • You will need a statement or the new EHP to get a place at a special school.  If he already has a statement, you will have to ask for it to be amended to have a special school put on.  I don't live in that area so can't help much with specific schools but the LEA should be able to give you a list.

Has your son been getting any help?  My daughter has been through the same however she's accessed some excellent outreach help and has recently been attending the local Pupil referal unit while we wait for her statement to be written and a special school named.  I know its not ideal but it was a slow transistion from once a week outreach to going to the centre and we are lucky that it is very quiet at the moment.
