advice please

Hi everyone my name is Katie and im a mum of two children both have been diagnosed as autistic.

My daughter being the second child has a few more issues she is globally delayed in all areas, has hypotonia low muscle tone and also strabismus.

Two weeks ago our daughter started mouth jerking, shoulder jerking, making snorting noises, humming whilst pulling constant facial expressions ,and also arm shrugging.

Been to the doctors he says its perfectly normal that children have tics and that this is what she is suffering from and to just leave her too it and see if she out grows them.

I asked him how long can she have them for he said usually a month or just over and they disappear but i didnt think this sounded right as many i have read can have them for a long time and they can varie from alsorts of different tics they can change to new ones from day to day is this right?

Also he said no child gets tourettes syndrome until they are deffirnitly 7 years old is this true? i told him about my familys history my dad had tourettes his dad had it,i had it till i was 12 and my sister is 16 years old and has it really bad she swears with it and shouts and spits and bangs her head etc.I also remember my sister started doing little tics at 5 and she got worse by the time she was 6 years old. He just said to go home not to worry about anything she does until she is 7 years old should i just relax and take each day as it comes and hope that she will outgrow the tics ? I just want to make sure im doing everything thats best for her and not letting her down thats all.

Sorry if im rambling its something new to us and yes as a parent you are bound to worry when you see your child getting mad because their snorting and mouth movents are winding them up and stopping them from eating she said earlier " im fed up now not again " when he snorting got loud.

Also is it true that autistic sprectrum disorder can also make you have Tics for years as ive seen some children apparently 11 and 12 years old have Tics from a younger year thats lasted that long And its caused by their autsim its said ?

Thankyou to whoever answers my questions im just curious and not very knowledgable with this type of thing as my childs only 5 and just like to know about all the facts.

Tics aren't associated with autism. Some autistic people do repetitive "stimming" movements but they are different to tics. some suffer from meltdowns, or rage incidents that lead to head banging etc. it is, of course, possible to have Tourettes and an autistic disorder
