How do you deal with your child's stims???

Im recently diagnosed and I have very strong suspicions that my 5 year old is too.

Shes always made repetitive noises which I find so hard to deal with. 

I dont want to tell her to stop because I suspect she can't help it but I also can't keep my sanity while listening to it on a continuous loop. 

How do others deal with this?

  • That’s tricky isn’t it? I think you’re right that asking her to stop would not be good. Could you use a game or something to help her maybe make the sounds a little bit quieter - would that help? Or maybe could you change how you’re responding to them - maybe by changing your perception of them to seeing them as a more meditative sound? Respective sound can be very soothing. If you put some gentle soothing music or soundscape recording on quite quietly would that help her - and/or you?
