Parent Help with explosive outbursts with our Autistic daughter

Good evening

Our daughter was diagnosed last year in 2025 and she is a loving daughter and very sweet but recently she has been going through really explosive outbursts at home, She is an EBSA and were struggling as a family with the level she is getting to with the shouting with no care for who can hear or if neighbours have small children. She has started to lash out at my wife and she been hit with fists and objects, bitten and generally rude to by her. The outbursts always happen of an evening and can be any time during that time. There is just no calming her down.

We as a family do not know where to turn to or where to go for advice or to chat to anyone about the outbursts.

I hope this does not sound negative as she is really sweet and loving but they are becoming worse and we just do not know what to do.

  • Hi, it's hard what you are going through. My outbursts included autoagression and destruction of objects around me. That was a response to too much happening during the day. Especially at school, where my whole nervous system was at constant high allert. The final trigger was, when I noticed, that something was missing, for example on a shelf. I couldn't process it emotionally. If possible,  you could maybe try to identify what triggers the outbursts, it's important to ask if your daughter has enough recovery time during the day. Does she experience any bullying at school? I won the battle with my meltdowns on my own, it took me years of hard work and did not succeed immediately. Does your daughter have any therapy? I didn't have one, but maybe now there are therapies, that would help.

  • She has therapy every other Saturday. The main trigger is school itself in that she can not cope with the amount of children there and having to move from one side of the school to the other. It’s to much for her. We’re currently in the process of an EHCP and the school has said there is nothing more they can do as they don’t have the funding. We are looking at Autism friendly schools where they have a hub to learn in smaller numbers and no moving about. It just takes so long to come through and process. There are certain lessons ahead is not keen on like History.
