Autism and EBSA

Hello,

My child has always hated school and school refused since nursery. This has progressively gotten worse as he has gotten older and especially since he moved into secondary school. I have spoken to IPSEA, made a self referral to early help and also am applying for an EHCP independently and currently at the appeal stage but he has had an assessment. I always have had numerous meeting with the school however they have a lack of understanding and just say he is fine when he is here and the only problem is the morning and getting him in to school. He does have time out/leave early passes and school have shortened his day by one period on a Monday and Friday.

I am not in a position where I can not afford to give up work and home school him but he rarely attends and I don’t see what is the long term solution for him to access an education and not cause him so much distress.

There is so many more elements to this but has anyone experienced something similar? What solutions did you find? Was there anywhere you could speak to someone for help and advice and not just be signposted to speak to someone else? Was there anything you implemented that helped your child cope with school?

thank you in advance.
