New thing spitting out drinks on the floor

My 5 year old granddaughter has started filling her mouth with her drink and then spitting it everywhere. 

We have tried a few things like giving minimal amounts in the straw drinker. Unfortunately it may be the sensation she likes but it's difficult when you are at out or at someone's house.

Any ideas or is it just another phase,.

  • My son did this a few years ago.  Is it certain cups your granddaughter spits drinks out of?  We found at the time it happened if people gave my son an open cup for any drink he had after breakfast as he wasn’t used to it. We also found with open cups just giving him small drinks regularly helped.  We haven’t had any problems with this for a few years.
