Awaiting an Assessment

Hello all, my son is 4 and was referred for an ASD assessment by Health Visitor last year. We haven’t heard anything really.
Generally how long have people waited for assessments and have you any advice on getting the School to support him more while we wait?
Sorry, I’m learning as I go and some days just winging it so could do with all the guidance on offer x

At age 4, your primary contact is the school’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).

Request a "Graduated Response" meeting: Ask the SENCO how they are implementing the "Assess, Plan, Do, Review" cycle. This is a requirement under the SEND Code of Practice.

What Reasonable Adjustments: Even without a diagnosis, the school can implement:

Visual Timetables: To help with transitions and anxiety.

"Now and Next" boards: To break down tasks.

Sensory Breaks: Access to a quiet space or "fidget" tools.

Every council in the UK is legally required to publish a "Local Offer" website.

Search for "[Your Council Name] Local Offer." This will list local charities, portage services (home-based support for pre-schoolers), and parent-support groups that help families "waiting for assessment."
