need help

Hello

Our daughters trait are becoming more apparent each day and I am really struggling with knowing what to do. I have tried my hardest to just go with the flow when it comes to our daughters additional needs but it all feels like it's getting harder. We get no professional support because this all feeds from school and at school she is fine. My biggest concern is our daughter is growing up expressing her traits with no form of help. Should we just let her do it all or try to help? She shouts out random things at random times, will say she is tired but still struggle to get to sleep, she constantly flicks herself, she flicks her together, she doesn't yet eat with cutlery but will use a spoon. These are main things but occasionally there will be other things. The OT told us to do therapy with her for her sensory issues but I can't get her to do them especially when she is out. Can you please help, it's all getting too much. Thank you

  • Thank you for your reply.

I am not unfortunately because they run coffee mornings when I am at work so I can't make it to them. I am just so tired of worrying that I am getting it wrong. I have friends that tell me there is no magical cure and we need to just go with the flow but with things getting worse, I don't know if we should just carry on ignoring things or actually be helping her.

  • Are you in contact with a local support group? They will have a wealth of experience availiable and be very familiar with local service provision and recreational oppertunities suited to your daughters needs.

Good luck getting support for your child.

  • Hello

She has a support person who goes to school observe her once a half term but sees no issues so they don't offer support except for movement breaks but she doesn't have them every day. She is 6 and will be 7 in five weeks. She gets no professional OT, we are expected to do this which we try but it's really hard especially when we are out. Her sensory issues change from day to day depending on her mood but her main ones are smell, taste and noise.

Thank you for your rep k y xxx

  • Hi - sorry to hear things are getting too much.  You mentioned school.  You've probably spotted in the posts that some autistic children are "no trouble" at school but let out all their stress at home.  There's many a thread on that. Sealed.  Does she get support at school?  Also, because it will help with replies, cd you let us know her age + what therapy she gets for her sensory issues + what those sensory issues are?  bw
