Hi everyone
I’m new to the site and community so please bear with me. My grandson is almost 21 years old and we think he may be Autistic. Looking back and joining all the dots we feel my grandson has been masking he’s autism throughout his early years and school life. Things came to ahead when he suffered mental health issues. After some investigation and reading things on this website I feel his mental health issues may be down to burnout after years of masking Autism. Has anyone else had the same or similar experience with there child/young person. We are desperate to get him assessed but also feel my grandson will not be willing to be assessed for autism. He was referred to psychiatrist via his GP and they have said they can’t find anything wrong with him. To be honest I feel this hasn’t helped because they told my grandson there’s nothing wrong with him but then informed my grandson’s parents there is something wrong but the can’t put their finger on it. This has left us in limbo and in the meantime my grandson is left without any support etc. can you suggest how we can encourage my grandson to get assessed for autism how we can approach him with the idea of getting an assessment. We are willing to go private if needs be as we are so desperate and feel he is being left behind with regards to him leading his life. I would really appreciate any ideas suggestions signposting you can give.
