Recent diagnosis for my daughter who is 8 years old- advice please!

Hi All,

My 8-year-old daughter has recently been diagnosed with ASD by a right-to-choose provider who has been brilliant from the start.

I need some advice on where to start. What do I need to do?

I am currently waiting for the provider to send out the report, and I am overwhelmed by what to do.

Thanks

Becky

  • The report should include some recommendations which may help, but I guess the thing to do is think about the impacts.  We are all different and some of us and cope well with some things but not with others, which other Autistic people might find easy enough.  Baring in mind that needs may change over time.

Once you have a list of things you think she might need support with, then talk to professionals in those areas to see what adjustments and support can be put in place.

  • Hi,

Thank you for the lovely message and explaining it in bit more detail.

I’m going to look into the steps you said and start putting stuff in place.

    thank you!
