Private Therapies in Ayrshire/Glasgow Area?

Hi There,

My son is 3 years old and awaiting a possible diagnosis.   don't feel what he is receiving at the moment is enough.  There is no 1-1 speech therapy available in our council area and any sort of help is only term time, nursery and occasional home teacher. I have been googling and looking at the directory but there does not seem to be much available out there? I am interested in Speech Therapy and ABA therapy.

Can you please let me know if you are aware of anything in the Ayrshire/Glasgow area? We would either like someone to come to our house in Ayrshire or for us to attend somewhere in Ayrshire/Glasgow etc.

If you have any recommondations I would really like to hear them? Also what kind of therapy you would personally recommend? I know everyone is different, but want to hear others opinions.

Thank you

  • Hi,

so, the following comment is my biased reply. Please consider it an anecdote At best.

in my experience some ABA amounta to abuse. It works by making someone so scared and terrified of their own unmanaged behaviours then bend to the will of people around them.

I flap a lot, I rock and move a lot. For a number of years a failed attempt at ABA made me rigid with fear. Yeah the flapping stopped, but the cost was my sense of safety.

Things may be very different now, my experinces were probably just the result of a bad practitioner or something but seeing people mention it still makes me nervous.

    Cheers

(PS: I flap just as much as an adult. I have a day job as in a senior technical role at the BBC. No one cares that I flap.)
