community Assessments

Hi I'm new to the community . I have a son ,Joe who is 17 with a diagnosis of Severe Autism and global learning difficulties . Joe is 18 in October and we currently have support from a short break care provider this stops in October . We have nothing in place to replace the service .The local authority has carried out a community assessment and i believed that funding was being sought .I have just discovered that funding has not even been applied for yet . Is anyone experiencing similar issues ,social services inform me that they will 'Try to avoid a break in services'! .They have had over 3 years to plan for this .Am i right in thinking that funding HAS to be in place before Joe's 18th Birthday ?

I have had a 'named' New short break care provider since February ,it took until March to carry out the Assessment and i was shown the 'Rough Draft' at the end of June .

There is no urgency and no consideration for the affect that the inevitable changes to Joe's routine will have on him ,i'm looking at the legal implications now. Any advice would be very welcome !!

cheers

  • Hi and thanks for the comments .Sadly we have an 'Army' of professionals who have been involved with us for many years ,they seem completely clueless when it comes to Joe's future .We live in Daventry near Northants and we are meeting other parents of Young adults with Autism who are experiencing the same issues as us .
