Hi
i wanted to ask if my daughters meltdowns are ’ normal’ . We have been on this journey for three years now and despite being under Cahms seeing numerous professional therapists drs etc when we describe how our daughter reacts when overwhelmed we get looked at like we’re making it up or overreacting.
When overwhelmed with anxiety , which she lives with 24/7 , she drops to the floor, bucks her limbs, thrashes about hyperventilates and mutters help me help me repeatedly. She can be known to scratch at her arms and punch her thigh. She cannot be touched she cannot be spoken to she cannot access breathing techniques or coping strategies.
in fact if another person asks me if she knows any breathing strategies I may scream!
it is highly distressing for anyone who sees her like this as well as her obviously.
does anyone else have this experience? We do our best to stay calm and present until she comes out of this state but it’s very upsetting.
