Proposed Statement of SEN and moving house/changing school

Hello everyone!

I'm new here and I really need Your advice...

I've got a Proposal Statement of SEN for my 5 years old boy, had to complete Part 4 and wrote my son's current mainstream school few days ago, but...week ago I've completed application form for the property in another area/County, I'd like (and was dreaming about for a long time) to move, to give my son a better future...I wasn't sure if I'll get it, but now I nearly got a positive answer from new letting agency/landlord (they are waiting only to get a reference from my current agency - and I know it will be good).

I'm a bit confused now as I'd like my son to go to the special school near the new property we'll move into, but I've already sent Part 4 with his current school delails in it. His mainstream school is trying the best to meet my son's needs, he has very good TA and seems to settle well enough to join some educational activities, but he is getting too sensitive to the noise and many kids around him...and  for the last few weeks he is often telling me he doesn't want to go to school anymore - so I think he would benefit from changing school.

Does anybody know what happens with the Statement if moving to the different County? Should we start from the beginning with all this paperwork?

Can I change the school in Part 4,  I want my child to attend?

Should I first ensure there is a place for my son in that special school or first I shoud let my Council's Child In Need Team know about I've changed my mind?

What happens if there is no place for my son in a local special school - will we be offered a placement in mainstream or another special school?

 I got so many questions...

Would be happy if anyone knows the answer on any of them.

Kind regards,

Parents
  • I haven't much experience but I moved counties last year and if your child already has a statement in place, you do not go the normal route of applying for a school place but direct via your SEN department - the new county should have the information on their website.  You may be able to call the department and get an idea of what will happen before you have a definite yes or no.
