Hello - My son is 19, we live in Rome, Italy. He desperately wants to move back to the UK (London or elsewhere). We moved here to Rome for him to go to University. He has since dropped out and doesn't want to live in Italy anymore. He believes he is ready to be on his own and live in the UK, but his Dad and I do not feel he has all the skills yet to live independently.
I am wondering if there is an Autistic Community of other young adults who are going through the same thing in the UK.
There is so much more to my story. But what we are faced with now is he is here in Rome with us and does not go outside at all, he stays in his room 24/7. He had a difficult time trying to adapt to University and everything about Italy is putting him off right now. His Dad and I are not moving back to the UK, we sold our house there to buy a house here. Everyone including our son was on board with this decision. But sadly, University did not work out here.
We lived in London for a very long time, our son was born there, though his Dad and I are from the US. I think if he was to live in the UK for a while, he would see how difficult it is away from us, but of course he won't know that until he does it. And we are not ready to just let him go without having support if he was in the UK.

One more note: He doesn't want to go back to therapy I think he's tired of people trying to "fix" him. We have him in a Mentoring program now but that just started.
