Which school.?? Part 4 of statement

Hi All,

Yesterday I finally after eight plus years of battling, received the draft statement for my now 14 year old daughter. I agree with most that has been said within it, but feel completely at a loss when it comes to filling in part 4. We have been to look at a few schools but only one is in county but it's full..the rest are over 40 miles away. The one we really liked has residential and we can really see how weekly boarding would be beneficial to the overall well being and growth of my daughter, plus there is no way she would travel that far on a daily basis.

Has anyone on here had a similar dilemma, and any advice as to how I should word why I would like her to go this particular school. It is a school that was on the LA recommended list, but the would take her there daily - the local school ( which is full ) have said I should bargain with the LA as their fees are twice as much as the other school and would be an equal cost to the authority by the time the travel costs were added.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

  • You need to name the school you think will meet her needs best regardless of whether they are full.

If the LA don't agree you can appeal if you're prepared to pay legal costs and for private assessments. If you can get an educational psychologist to agree that the school you prefer is the best one to meet her needs the LA will have to prove otherwise if they don't want to pay for it.

Google IPSEA and SOSSEN for free advice if you can get through on their helplines and Educational Equality for advice that you pay for dependent on your income.
