Helping my son to have a social life

Do you know of any ways to contact or meet other teens/young adults with Aspergers apart from facebook groups?

My son's 16 & has just left school.  When I asked him if there's anyone he'll miss he replied "the teachers - because I can have an intelligent conversation with them."  He says he's got nothing in common with people of his generation - bit of a sweeping statement, but I think he's just not met anyone else with Aspergers who likes doing their own thing instead of following the crowd.

He loves films, esp. Star Wars & Bond, Big Bang Theory, Lego, collecting watches, XBox.  We live in Lancashire but I can't find any local groups on the NAS website.  His social life revolves around me and I'd like him to see he can enjoy the company of some people his own age!

Thanks :)

  • Nathan's due to start college in September. I've discovered the college have a Film Club which I'll encourage him to join so hopefully he'll meet some other people on his wavelength.  Your English teacher must have really appreciated your letter!

Like you, Nathan's more confident with older people, especially on a 1-2-1 basis.  He struggles to join in conversations if there's a group of people & just starts talking to one of the group about something totally random.  He avoids everyone his age - so I'm astonished he's decided to go to the school Prom after some kids from his English class encouraged him to!  Just spent £300 on a suit + accessories which he'll look great in. Normally he's perfectly happy wearing jeans & a comfy pyjama top to go out!

Thanks for replying, its made me feel very positive - I hope I can find a nice group Nathan can attend.
