Support from school...

Hi all,my son was diagnosed with asd in March and so far the school hes in havent been very helpful in regards to communicating  with me,informing me what support they can give my son etc. My son is 8 and goes to a mainstream school. He's due to start P5 in August and would like a transition plan set up before he stops school for summer holidays. What can i do to get the right support in school my son needs? Thanks.

  • Hi Abbi, thanks for the reply. His school deputy head phoned me yesterday informing me that the learning support teacher is doing assessments on my son so hopefully will get a meeting before the end of term. I live in Glasgow so i think I should be asking for an IEP for him? As for the educational physcologist he saw my son last June,he said he didnt see the triad of impairments so no need to refer him. Well that was a joke to say the least cause i knew better, plus the school had said he'd been having difficulties etc. So i got him assessed with the speech and language team who recommended him to get assessed for autism, they gave me his diagnosis in March. His school is not the quickest in getting back to me,so i have a long road ahead but have got great info on this site and from the post diagnosis advice clinic where he was diagnosed. I also want a transition plan set up for him but not too sure if this is compulsary or not? thanks again for the advice x
