My son was diagnosed with ASD age 4. Among other things, presented with high anxiety, very clingy, OCD ritual behaviour from very young and really struggled queueing. Fast forward 11 years at a hospital appointment for allergy he had a vasovagal episode (fainting). His blood pressure had dropped to around 60/30. Was then referred to a psychologist who then witnessed it happen again and deemed it physiological. Had to push for him to be checked at a cardio/syncope clinic where he had heart checks which came back normal, but then had a tilt table test where his blood pressure dropped in the first few minutes. He was diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension (autonomic similar to POTS), i asked them if linked to autism and they said they do get a lot. Was a real penny drop moment with a lot of things he found difficult and has always been deemed him being difficult or controlling or anxiety. i so wish we had known about this earlier as would have been treat better throughout education and got the help he needed. Am feeling like i need to raise awareness because information is lacking in this country. Anyone out there with similar, would love to know.
