Clingy 7yr old

Hi can anyone offer any advice my 7 year son old has all of a sudden become really clingy it’s so intense. It’s to the point where he has to have one hand on me at all times I can’t even go to the loo alone he has to be sat on my knee. He is diagnosed with ASD and developmental delay he is also non verbal

  • In situations like this I recommend trying visuals - ie a photo of you to keep with him if you're not physically with him.  This really helped my son with separation anxiety at times when he had to leave me to go to bed, or to school.  It's a really hard one for you to manage as it's so caught up with feelings of guilt, but that might be worth a try (even if you just start small - like while you go to the loo!!) x
