In our family we usd to experience a similar situation with a sibling ripping the doors off advent calendars.

As a family; it was our custom to enjoy re-using advent calendars in subsequent years (respecting: their ingenious design, the likely expense involved and that they were often a gift from people we respected).

One year, as part of Christmas preparations, we encouraged / facilitated / assisted said sibling to design a simple advent calendar, gather the required materials and then make an advent calendar to gift to their God Mother.

That process seemed to help the sibling less view advent calendars as a disposable item. 

Maybe, you could try making a simple flap book in your home with your Son?

If a book seems too daunting - maybe a birthday card, or a thank you card might seem more achievable?

My family just say tell him not to do it.  I’ve tried saying stop but it makes no difference. The only thing that did work was saying we couldn’t go in the shops if he ripped up their books, I used visual aids that time
