My son is in Y9, he has ASD, dysgraphia, slow processing and T1 diabetes, so school is exhausting for him. At least once a fortnight he gets "ill". His symptoms are always pretty vaugue, feels sick, bit of a headache, feels "woozy". He will stay in bed and sleep most of the day. Add these episodes to days off for high blood sugars when he sleeps though his alarms and his attendance is only 80%.
I feel that these episodes are burnout from masking, and the additional effort his learning difficulties add to the mix. He doesn't have an EHCP, but is on the SEN register (even though he was only recently dx as ASD).
Any tips on how to manage these episodes, reduce their incidence and deal with school, who claim that time off for "anxiety" is not acceptable?
