Newly diagnosed daughter university worried parent

Daughter number two has done an amazing job by getting into Chester uni and is about to start her second year. 

This is the year I have been worried about as she now has to move off campus and we need to sort a private landlord. 

She really isn’t capable to hold work especially roles for students in customer service or retail. We have just applied for PiP to see if that can help, and DSA for some support locally from specialists. 

Do we need to also apply for Universal Credit? Can we get her support for Motability in case she has to long commute? 

New for us and seems a minefield designed to be very anti neurodivergent in regards to volume of information:) (ADHD Dad)

    It's great to hear that your daughter is doing well at university.

    Eligibility for benefits depends on a lot of factors, which are unique to each of us, so, rather than offering any ill-informed personal opinions, I'd instead like to share some suggestions for resources and specialist sources of advice that you might find helpful.

    Following her autism diagnosis, have you or she spoken with the University of Chester’s "Disability and Inclusion team" about her needs?

    Depending on her preferences, I wonder for example whether - by way of adjustment - the university might allow her to remain on campus throughout her studies. They might also be able to help with benefits-related advice. There's more information, including a contact email address for them, here:

    Her students’ union might also be able to offer some advice and support.

    The Motability website explains which qualifying mobility allowances someone needs to be receiving in order to be eligible to join the scheme:

    More generally, for personal advice about eligibility for benefits, I'd suggest contacting Citizens Advice:

    There are also a couple of great, benefits-related websites that some of us here have used:

    Turn2Us > Studying (aged 16+) - "If you are in higher or further education, find out what help may be available to you through benefits, grants or other financial support".
