DLA - How long for a decision

I have sent off the DLA forms for my son over 7 days ago and was just wondering how long I should expect to wait before a decision and whether I should expect an acknowledgement for the application so I know it has been recieved??

I had a confirmation of receipt at around week 4 and then an update evry 5-6 weeks saying "awaiting Drs report" or "processing info" very long drawn out process. I applied for my son last August and am off to the tribunul court next month as refused at every level. Very stressful but if you feel your child needs it fight for it. Hope your application ieasier than mine alot are.
