Advice on Exams

My 16year old daughter is waiting on diagnoses for her Autism through right to choose ! Short story she’s been masking for a few years which I missed the signs  last few months she as not been attending school as it’s a huge struggle for her the school have been really understanding & do feel she needs that extra support! But they haven’t got the resources to fill her needs they have done what they can to try to make her feel comfortable.. she as sat most of her Exams  as the school she attends do them early she sat them last November 24 she as Two more to do second part of her English & Marhs  .. even tho she has not got a diagnosis due to waiting and was turned down EHCP which was told you would be 80% would be rejected and I would have to appeal then she would receive a EHCP that’s how the symptom works it’s crazy as parents do you think we have time for all this appealing waiting a another 8-13 weeks honestly it’s shocking ! Anyway my question is is my daughter still available for support with her last exams ? Does she have to sit in a room with 100 other students  can she receive the support in school for this ?

  • You can get access arrangements for exams without an EHCP but there has to be evidence. It will depend on how good/experienced your school are in applying for access arrangements in all honesty. I'm not sure what the deadline is for applying for access arrangements but it would also depend on whether there is time. I have a feeling the deadline will have passed, I don't know whether there is any possibility of them making a case after it has passed. If they can still apply the fact that she's awaiting assessment for diagnosis and hasn't been in school helps. The SENCo would need to make an argument that being in a room with everybody else would cause too much stress. I would speak to the schools SENCo ASAP about this.
