Obsession with Criminal Minds (The Show)

My daughter, 18, has been obsessed with Criminal Minds since she was probably 16. I don't have a problem with it all, but she is very obsessed... like extremely obsessed.

It's all she talks about, watches, googles, you name it. It's gotten to the point where she is buying stuff related to the show. When it's a bit of money, or a couple of things, then I don't mind, but she is trying to spend LOTS of money. She bought a jumper and top, which is pretty cool, and she wears them every day unless they are in the wash. I have just caught her trying to spend over £100 on perfumes which smell like the characters, more clothes, bags, stickers, etc. And she doesn't even like perfume, she hates it.

I've tried redirecting her attention to making a scrapbook, power points, games, etc. but she's already done those or tried them. So, does anyone have any ideas, big or small, so she can continue her interest in criminal minds but without spending large sums of money.

Thanks in advance

  • Could you try direscting her towards a criminology course, or psycology?

    I don't know how they can say this is what the character smells of, unless they've got the favourite perfumes/aftershaves of the actors, maybe something htey use to help get into character? Sounds like a con to me.

  • Could try to set up a Facebook group for fans (private group);

    I used to talk about tennis for hours.

    When I was younger I used to write to famous people for there autograph and heard nothing back.

    Same with royal mail pen pal scheme hola! Had contact details with bits of address missing and one who was collecting pen pals.

    In the end thought snail mail isn't for me.

    NO?  Is there really such a thing?   I mean, how do you know what they smell of anyway?

    It's an obsession.  I had loads.  Someone is exploiting people here to an extreme level, in my opinion.

    I hate to say it, but social media could be the answer.  Set up an unofficial fan page on Tik-Tok or Facebook.  Post media clips & news on Criminal Minds, and soon enough others with the same interest will join.  You may think it unlikely, but they will.

    Obviously take care who you interact with, but you say she's 18.   You may think this is unlikely to work, but I've seen others do it over other obsessions, and I've been amazed to see how many people out there will literally talk for hours - days - weeks about things if they like them.  And I thought I knew about obsessiveness.

    You could call it a modern-day scrapbook I suppose, but it needn't cost anything at all.
