Online training for parents

I have just recieved the EP report for my son as part of an ehcp application action and he has mentioned in several places emotional literacy. I was wondering if anyone has come across any "training" for parents.

I realise this will be part of the school provision for him but I would like to have some skills that are parallel to what is being offered/provided at school to keep a consistence for him. To be clear I am not looking to replace what school will provide or "teach" him myself just support the strategies and skills he will be being taught.

  • Hi Anna, thank you, this is much appreciated :-)

  • Hi  , you might find some free and relevant materials on this website: https://www.autismeducationtrust.org.uk/parents.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi again, I have leafed through and found some really useful things, thanks again for signposting to this help, all the best

  • Hi Karin

Thank you for taking the time to reply, it is really appreciated. There is no centre near where we live and the search brings up 341 responses, many of them are centre specific, Scotland, Northern Ireland etc. When I click through the links (like with teen support) it eventually becomes apparent that this is not support that I can access due to delivery location. Thanks anyway for taking the time to reply. All the best

  • Hello Tree_hugger,

The NAS website has free material for parents to learn more about autism. If you type 'parent support' in the search bar, you'll find many support groups around the country. There are also online support groups.

    All the best,

    Karin Mod

  • Aplogies for late reply, thank you for this.

  • Hello Chloe, I am new to this forum and grateful for your signposting to these valuable resources. I’m here in my capacity as a parent, when my son was diagnosed I received very little support (service under-resourcing) and were passed to school for educational engagement support only. I have been muddling through but have realised this now isn’t enough, I would be grateful to learn about the different valuable things on these courses to become better equipped as a parent but they are each £35. Is it possible to check whether free parenting support resources are available anywhere, thanks so much :-)

  • Hello

Thank you for sharing this with the Community. You may like to have a look at the NAS E-Learning page, which includes a variety of training modules on topics related to communication, mental health and supporting families:

    I hope this helps,
