Hello,

Please advise what route or help I can get when my child has school avoidance and is not being supported at school. There is currently no plan in place. How does a young person get on the SEN register. My child struggles day and night.

    Have you contacted the school to get a meeting with their Special Educational Needs co-Ordinator (SENCO) person?

    That would be my first port of call as they can inform you of all your options. These do vary from country to country in the UK I believe but not by much.

    Does you child have an autism diagnosis? This may be important to get them to take it seriously (although they should be supportive ideally).

    I have noticed people reporting some SENCOs are not as good as others in their willingness to help so it would be helpful to also read up on them. There is also a good, straightforward article on the role of the SENCO so you can remind them if they "forget" any areas they should be helping with:
