Hello,
Our adult Autistic daughter suffers with her pysical and mental health. She also has a drink problem, using it to self
medicate her anxiety. She has lived in a social housing flat independently, with some help/support from us, for app. 10 years.
Not being able to work she is on benefits and has her rent paid. Those years have been a constant struggle because of
noise (she's very noise sensitive) We managed to get her moved once but the problem is even worse. Because her health is
suffering badly we have decided the only choice we have is to move away from the city to a property with an annexe/granny
flat so that she still has her independence but is close. She cannot live with the rest of the family and we cannot live with her
as she is very intolerant of anyone.
This is going to be difficult financially for us as we are both pensioners and the move is going to take all our savings. I've
looked on Gov.uk and all I can see is that they will not pay your rent if you're living with a close relative. Are we classed as
carers? Would that make a difference?
Has anyone else been in a similar position?
Thank you for listening,
Jane
