Rejection

My son is 30. He lives in residential nursing care with complicated health issues and challenging behaviour.  Over the past 6 months his behaviour has become much more challenging with refusal to shower, have his hair cut but more importantly, does not want to see me at all. I'm finding it very distressing and at my wits end as to what I can do... any and all suggestions would be very much appreciated by this community. Thank you so much.

  • How long has he been there? What was he like before moving in. If you have a timeline of events it might make it easier to trace possibilities. For instance, health and dietary needs. Do you go in daily to try to see him?

  • Hi there, thank you for your reply. He has been there for 13 years without any real issues at all. He loves his home and spent weekends at home with us but was very joyful to return to his own space. Nothing has changed in his home setting, diet or medications for that matter. COVID was a difficult period and we haven't yet managed to take him home for the weekends as he is point blank refusing. His personal care has diminished which has never been an issue before as he loved looking good and smelling nice. I see him twice a week as he attends Day Centre but he is refusing to participate in anything anymore and spends most of his time in his room...
