Seriously Need Help

We just discovered our child has been self harming.  His arm is covered in marks. We took him to the hospital last night to be looked at. They said they would not admit him and self harming was normal for people suffering depression. I don't know what to do. He says he has to scratch and cut himself to cope with the loss of his internet friends. He is also thin from a poor diet, he refuses to eat at times. This is such a nightmare.  There's no help. I'm sick to my stomach that there is no fix.

  • Hi, thank you so much for the advise and understanding you have shown by replying to me. My daughter was assessed by the multi disciplinery team at a Hospital who then concluded that she did not have Asperger's. I will ask the doctor when we go back to see him soon, with regards to self harming through the bullies, and as you say will demand a referal if need be. The information you have given me regarding putting a case forward to the funding panel, in the event of the need for a second opinion, is very valuable and thank you so much for informing me about that extremely important factor. It was very kind of you to share your experience in getting a diagnosis for your daughter, and of the bullying that your daughter has also endured. I feel just as you did; when you are a parent you are the one who has the natural instinct regarding your own child, aren't you. I intend to be as strong as you with regards to obtaining a diagnosis, as you did for your daughter, and your message of advise an support has meant so much to me. I send you my very best wishes to you and your daughter and thank you again.
