Seriously Need Help

We just discovered our child has been self harming.  His arm is covered in marks. We took him to the hospital last night to be looked at. They said they would not admit him and self harming was normal for people suffering depression. I don't know what to do. He says he has to scratch and cut himself to cope with the loss of his internet friends. He is also thin from a poor diet, he refuses to eat at times. This is such a nightmare.  There's no help. I'm sick to my stomach that there is no fix.

  • Hi, my daughter was discounted as having asperger's in her last year at primary school. She has a statement ofeducational needs with the Academy. The Academy have been giving my daughter support since she joined with them. She is now 13 years old. The approach with regards to my daughter's socialization skills have always been based on her as having 'lack of self confidence and low esteem'. She has always been bullied but the Academy have not treated the buying as serious. I wrote them a letter of complaint on 18th March. I have not even had a formal reply to my letter and I have saught help with agencies who have all advised me that a reply from them by law is stipulated under Section 75 of the Education Act.  My daughter has put a knife to her stomach in the past because of bullying by two girls in particular over the past two years. Two weeks ago because of further bullying she again went into the kitchen and got out a knife and again pressed it against ach. She alsoput her hands around her throat ina strangulating manner. I was obviously so distressed for my daughter that, (on the advise of my grownup son, because he has obviously been aware of the bullying and lack of action by the Academy) I felt the need to telephone Childline, which my daughter is registered with. They advised me to contact NSPCC. They were extremely supportive and advised me to take my daughter to the doctors first thing in the morning, which I did. The doctor said he would contact CAMHS as my daughter is on their waiting list to be seen once more....again relating to the bullying and need to self harm because of the bullying and lack of understanding and support received from the Academy. Social services instructed the school to put in place a CAF for my daughter and at the meeting, and during previous meetings to them we have expressed our opinion that our daughter does not have general lack of confidence and self esteem resulting in her socialization and communiction difficulties. We were astounded that at that very same meeting to be told that in their view, that our daughter was discounted as having asperger's then her problems could not be due to her having AUTISM! I have informed them that when I take my daughter back to the doctor in two weeks time with regard to her self harming, I intend to ask him for a referal for a formal diagnosis of AUTISM.  I feel so distraught for my daughter and totally let down by the Academy.
