Seriously Need Help

We just discovered our child has been self harming.  His arm is covered in marks. We took him to the hospital last night to be looked at. They said they would not admit him and self harming was normal for people suffering depression. I don't know what to do. He says he has to scratch and cut himself to cope with the loss of his internet friends. He is also thin from a poor diet, he refuses to eat at times. This is such a nightmare.  There's no help. I'm sick to my stomach that there is no fix.

  • Have you discussed this with your GP? They can refer your child to CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service). We have just been through this process and were worried that they wouldn't take our child's case on, but they have been very supportive. I would start there and if you go to the YoungMinds website - www.youngminds.org.uk - you can get the number for their helpline for advice and support. Hope all works out well.
