Setting up a potential carers support group - would you join?

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to ask any parents out there about what they think about a potential carers support group. I currently work for a not for profit organisation that have just set up an autism service in the York area and although we work directly with adults with autism, we are really keen on running a monthy carers group (anyone welcome/from all areas)where parents/carers (of all age children/adults) can support each other, pick up skills on how to look after themslves whilst caring for loved ones, increase understanding about their childrens needs etc. I am a psychologist by training with a research and clinical background in autism so would be keen on making sure the group has access to latest research and invite speakers. Do you think people would be interested??

It would be really great to hear your views?? my email is [removed by moderator]

Thank you!!

Victoria

The carers group would be open to anyone across the country because we are not funded by the local authorty we are an non for profit organisation/charity so do not have a service level agreement like other services to only offer the group just to York residents which is great. That's really kind of you KittyKat, I hope you find something that's accessible for you Iin your area.

As part of making the group work and to pay for professionals/speakers to run/speak at the groups/room hire/refreshments etc there would be a small charge but otherwise anyone would be free to join who is interested. It's just a thought at this stage but looks like it's much needed across country.
