Spelling and hand writting

Hi,

my 6 year old daughter who is autistic is doing very well at school (year 1). However we are struggling at home with regards to practising her spelling words and practising handwritting. As soon as something is not correct she just gets very frustrated and does no longer want to carry on practising. It's not easy... and it's only going to get harder.

Do you have any tips to share on how best to cope with such situations?

Thanks

  • The best way I found to get my son's to practice spellings, was by using a stylus on their Nintendo Ds . They could rub out and retry as many times as  they liked and being a gadget was half the fun.  I'm using a kindle to write this which gives me a keypad to type, so I would think a child will enjoy this rather than paper and pen to practice.  They can delete as they go along if they don't want anyone to see mistakes, and try again.
