Don't really know where to start with finding help or a school in Cheshire

Hello all, I'm new here and looking for a point in the right direction if anyone can help?!

A bit of background first.

My daughter is 4 1/2 and hasn't yet been diagnosed, but is on the waiting list for assessment here in Doncaster.  She's been waiting a year so far and it's looking like another 6 months before she will be seen.

We have just started the Statementing process for her which will take 26 weeks.

She currently attends mainstream pre-school 1 morning a week and also a small "nursery" for children with social and communication problems 2 mornings a week.  All the help she is receiving has come from pre-school and our local pre-school inclusion team who have been brilliant.  Her name is down for the local primary school for September, but I am hoping that she will be accepted to a more specialised school that helps children by giving them the 1-1 support that they need and eventually they are helped into mainstream school. (I hope I've explained that well, I'm not sure of it's "proper" name!)

However, it's looking likely that we will have to move to Crewe in Cheshire as a result of my husbands job.

I want to hang on here until she has been assessed and statmented before moving, but I also need to start trying to find some kind of school in Crewe, if possible one like the specialised one we are hoping she will get into here.  But I have no idea where to start with it.

So my question is, does anyone have any idea who I can contact or any personal experience of Crewe's pre-school inclusion type people?  Would it be the local council first?  I'm feeling quite daunted at the prospect of building up all the support my daughter needs and am a bit stuck.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Wow, thank you so much for all of that, I really appreciate it!

Having somewhere to start is a great help!

The chances of her being assessed here are better than us moving soon, our current house is not in a saleable condition yet, hubby is only home at the weekends and the last thing he wants to be doing is DIY when he is!  But I hadn't even thought is was possible to transfer her over to the diagnostic centre in Crewe, I just assumed that if she isn't diagnosed before we move, she will go to the back of the list.  It is something I will look into.

I found the Family Information Service through the local council website and have been in touch with them too.

    Thanks again.
