thankyou i will do, i did send all the outreach statements and letters from everybody who is dealing with him, i told them about everything his lack of social skills to him having really low self esteem to his motor skills everything,so fingers crossed

It's worth looking up ASC units.  Look on the websites for all the primary schools in your area and see if they list an ASC unit or call them and ask.  Or call the SEN department at your council and ask them to email you a list.

Before that stage, you can write back and ask them to "look at the claim again" and send any additional information you think might help.  Any professional reports you have will help so send copies of those.  A special school would be more suitable if he was low functioning but if he has normal intelligence his needs wouldn't get met academically and he might find the behaviours of some children their overwhelming and anxiety-causing.

thankyou for your advice, i will defently look into it, i have applied for dla but haven't heard anything yet and i also have signed up for being ruled out, i am not sure about asc units ,i did wounder if mainstream school was suitable but his senco told me he didn't fit the criteria for a special needs school

Also, are there are mainstream schools with ASC units in your area?  They are not always advertised as being in existence.  You can apply for a place for him in an ASC unit and he would integrate part of the time into the mainstream part of the school.  They may want a statement as well as a diagnosis though, so if you apply/appeal for the statement you can name the ASC unit on the statement.

If he is high-functioning a special school would likely not be for him.

There are a variety of schools specially for high-functioning children around the country, look up The Cambrian Group and the NAS has some schools too I believe.

You don't need the school's backing to apply for a statement.  If he has been assessed for a statement and refused or they have refused to assess, you can appeal to SENDIST: http://www.justice.gov.uk/tribunals/send

CAMHS are a pile of ****.  If you want to submit a complaint to Parliament about the uselessness of your CAMHS they are currently asking for submissions to the Select Committee: http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/health-committee/inquiries/parliament-2010/cmh-2014/

Does your son get DLA?  If CAMHS are too useless to help him, you could fund some private therapy from his DLA.  If he doesn't get DLA you can apply: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/277590/dla1a_child_print.pdf

The campaign examines why children with autism  miss out on education - including exclusion, part-time timetables and the difficulty parents have finding their child a school that can meet their needs.

In August 2013 we launched a survey which over 500 families responded to. We also issued a Freedom of Information request to all local authorities in England.

• Here are some of the key findings that came from the research:
• 20% of children with autism have been formally excluded in the past 12 months
• 4 in 10 children with autism have been excluded illegally during their time at school
• Over half of parents of children with autism say they have kept their child out of school for fear that the school is unable to provide appropriate support

We need to encourage as many people as possible to sign up to support the campaign and help us  ensure that all children and young people with autism are able to access good quality, full time education.
