considering a statement

Hi All and thank you for reading,

I have been debating over homeschooling my daughter due to her difficulties however we kind of felt as a family that was a drastic move, even though my daughter does constantly ask "can i have a teacher at home as they just dont get me over there".

The thing is I am a terrible procrastinator at times and although we have been discussing a statement as a family (the school not onside sadly) I havent yet done anything about it, I just dont know where to start and I feel with the school against us what chance will I have (self doubt is rubbish I know), I get so confused with it all when I start to research how to do this.

My daughter is high functioning however she is reluctant to attend school on a daily basis, this did improve slightly when camhs contacted the school regarding a care plan and suddenly the school had one.

The school do not see my daughters behaviour they see a model student, she cries daily in school and it is not staff who inform me it is my daughter and other children, she is ridiculed and hit or pushed, they informed me she is meeting her targets yet she is in year 3 and year 1 maths is sent home as homework with the year 1 bit scrubbed out luckily for me not scrubbed out enough.

I feel so drained by it all and I do not want to fail my daughter as the system will do a good job of that themselves, so I know I really need to step up and do this, I just do not know where to start and do get concerned how the school will treat my daughter when I inform them of this, so much has gone on with the school which has created trust issues for my daughter and us as a family.

desperate for some advice

  • Hi - your last para says it all, so please do step in, she needs your help.  You will feel better when you've applied for the statement, so do it.  You can apply yourself.  If you look up statementing via the home pg + the posts there's loads of advice, also on the ipsea site.  By not taking action so as not to rock the boat any more than it's already rocking, you're allowing things to happen on a daily basis which will only over time get worse.  Then you could have a crisis because of inaction.  You really need to be assertive with the school.  If they think you're basically willing to let them get on with it, then that's what they'll do.  Also keep a diary of your daughter's behaviour at home, inc video if she'll permit it.  If you believe the school won't change to help her, then check out other schools.
