How to find schools with Autism provision

I'm looking for a High School for my daughter for Sept 2015. I have an idea of the maintained mainstream provision in the County from LA staff and word of mouth but no idea of what might be available in SEN specific or private provision.

Does anyone know a reliable way to find out what's out there?

Parents
  • My grandaughter started at her secondary school in September last. Her parents have now found that this particular school is more for "behavioral problems" than aimed at children on the autism spectrum.

There is a school near us that takes autistic children and teaches them life skills, which is more what our granddaughter needs than being taught how to behave. But the school is too expensive (at £35,000 a year it's out of most people's budget). Can my daughter approach a government department to ask for help? If so, who? We live in Oxfordshire and are all concerned that this child will reach school leaving age without having learned the necessary skills to be able to live in the "wide world". If my son and daughter-in-law could get financial help, the child could board with us during the week. At present she is taxied to her school and this must surely be costing a lot of money.
