holidays during term time

Hi, I dont know if anybody can help me but with summer holidays being planned,I could do with some advice.

Our son is 11yrs and has aspergers and like alot of children like him he finds crowds a real problem, he doesn't relax and sticks like a limpet to me so we always take our holiday during term time, where itis alot less crowded and he and us don't get stressed out, and we can enjoy family time and our son gains life skills. The problem we have is with the new laws brought in regarding taking children out of school for holidays. Would we be able to cite the disability act or childrens rights to avoid being fined, itis another battle just to try to be a normal family.

hope someone can help

  • Denise - my advise as another mother is, book your holiday, enjoy the precious time with him and your family - write to the school now, or pop in and see the head - say exactly what you have said here - then wait for his/her reply. it may be that they can deny the absense but still not fine you, or they may fine you. dont pay, let it go to court and stand up for your rights firstly as his mum and secondly for him as an non-NT lad.

    JMO of course :-)
