School placement, what works?

Hello all,

Currently my daughter is Home educated due to relocation, preciously she attended mainstream which didn't end well and spent the last term of yr1 at home.

We are in the process of looking at education settings for her and her needs. She is diagnosed with asd and we believe that she has more diagnosis' (possibly adhd/pda) but are awaiting camhs who are s***. She struggled in mainstream education and so we have been looking at both mainstream with alternative provision and specialist settings.

I wanted to ask this community what provisions work best for your children. I understand all are different and what works for one may not work for another, but I wanted to get some advise of the settings that are working for you and your child.

Thanks for reading

  • Personally, from our experience, specialist settings are best. They have better understanding of your child and their needs. We've been through hell with our teen with schools for years because her needs weren't met and now she's 17 and in a sen school and is just about to do exams and looking for jobs, is driving, and about to leave school this year too. She has come so far and is so much happier overall and is now inspired to work with children with autism and additional needs.
