3 year old ASD pathway child child struggling at preschool

Hi everyone

My son really struggles at preschool.

Theyve applied for addotional funding for him which has not yet gone through yet. So my partner and I are currently having to go with him. As requested by the preschool.

when we go he doesnt seem to cope at all. Constant meltdowns and a lack of experience and understanding from other peers working their.(constant questions from the workers - which is good but they dont understand anything about the ASD spectrum)

Hes atteneded other nurserys aswell and they havent coped with him. We all know how asd children can act so I dont want to go into detail but the least I can say its extremely distressing for him.

They want to keep him theyre rather than refer to a spechial.needs school.  I believe theyre putting theyre inclusion policy above my sons welfare. .

Anyone have any advice.

Thank you

  • It's not about what they want it's about what your son needs.  If he will be better in a special school I would move him there.  Don't let them use your son as an experiment, it's awful if their inexperience and incompetence are causing him distress.

I personally don't agree with inclusion, I don't think it works, I think it makes children suffer.  You have to be very lucky to find a mainstream school that does it all right.
