My daughters end of year 6 show

My daughter came home a few weeks ago and said" mum i've got to audition if i want to be in the end of year 6 show",ok i said. A few day's later my daughter came home from school very low ,i asked if she was ok ,she started to cry "the teacher said there are too many words for me to remember,so i havn't got a part ,most of the year five's have part's." .................. my thought is,  being it is year 6 show then if children want a part or want to audition then they should be given a part suited to their level of needs time and time again she's made to feel like a failure.......................this should be a  happy time but not if she feels she's not as good as others and doesn't see her self as a success .......................I don't want this to continue in sept when she goes up to secondary school .has anyone else experienced this from main stream school.

  • Well that sounds like a very positive start. I've got my fingers crossed that all goes well for her. I'll be interested to hear how she's getting on.

  • We have been to the new school several times now ,so they have got a lot of information ,however we won't know till she starts in sept how things are going to go.We are hoping that we have a good home and school relationship with them ,thats something wev'e never had at her current primary school .

  • Hi TEA

What a shame the school can't be more flexible about getting her involved in a way that suits her. I hope she's not too upset. Frown

Have you had any contact with her secondary school yet? Would be good to know that they were already preparing to meet your daughter's needs. If you have any concerns you could try one of the NAS helplines:

I hope very much that things might be better at her secondary school - please do let us know how she's getting along. If any of our users can share some of their experience that would very helpful.

    Good luck.

  • Hi all ,my daughters show, was just one example .feeling that you can't do something while watching others in the class feeling success ,is totally soul distroying to my daughter ..................no matter how many times i  went to the school to explain how she was feeling ,they never seemed to care...........................................she goes to big school in sept and she is going to have such a shock ....................................................................................................................she cant read or write properly yet ,i'm so worried .Why does the government think you can fit a square peg into a round whole .   sorry if i've gone on abit ,i feel helpless she's only just turned 11 .
