Hi i wonder if any one can help please.. I have a son who is now 16, and despite constantly trying to get help for him with g.p appointments, psychiatric appointments, psychologist etc he has only now been diagnosed as having autism.. I have letters in front of me that date back to August 2010, thats how long its been since i have been fighting for a diagnoses for my son.. The school he attends is mainstream and he has struggled throughout without any help whatsoever, despite numerous meltdowns due to pressures hes unable to cope with.. I have had so many meetings in school i have lost count the times i have gone there practically pleading for help.. The head of S.E.N.C.O at the school has been crap basically, saying theres no way my boy was autistic..And without a diagnoses she felt he didnt qualify to be statemented. I have always been worried about this time coming as i knew there was no way my boy would cope with G.C.S.E's.
Well we're at the time now where his first exam is tomorrow and he is totally refusing to go. He locks himself in his room, won't speak, gets extremely angry if anyone bothers him, tearfull, and basically if pushed is going to have a major meltdown..
Does anyone know if a child in this situation can be excluded from the exams? There is no way he can cope with doing them and im at my wits end..Any help greatly appreciated.. thanks.. Sally..
