My husband and son are both diagnosed. I'm sure my daughter is on the spectrum too. Currently she refuses to go to school on a regular basis. She was assessed at age 8 at didn't tick enough boxes. Now she is at secondary school she is really struggling to settle in. I still have to walk her into school, she has struggled to make friends and she hates moving from room to room, the crowds and the noise. We are also seeing some challenging behaviour at home. I would like to have her reassessed. At the moment I'm completing a DLA form. I need to get back to work and this is difficult at the moment as i need to be around for her in case she refuses to attend school. I also need to support her in the mornings. If I can't work I'm going to have to cancel her riding lessons and gymnastics as I just can't afford it. This will be awful for her as they are the only places where she socialises. Therefore if she can claim DLA I'll still be able to pay for her activities and maybe some tutoring to top up her education.
On the form it asks if she has already seen a professional regarding her difficulties. Would it go against is if I do not mention that she was turned down for a diagnosis before? Is this something they will become aware of anyway so it's best to mention it on the form? I'm trying to get an appointment with my GP with regard to getting her on the waiting list but am prepared for an extremely long wait!
Has anyone else had the same dilemma about what to put in the form if your child has been turned down for a diagnosis previously? What do I do?
Thanks
